The Summer of Progressive Ferment
What we are beginning to see, not only with the Speaker, but also with the whole Obama team, is that their renaissance plans to transform American into the leader of a new universe of Oz, has been defeated by the natural law of inertia. All the lofty rhetoric, back room political deals, and hope in vapor, can’t do the heavy lifting. So the alternative is attempting to elevate the angst into chaos to see if any of the stress will create some composted material that may stick to the wall.
I have long stated if I had a donkey I would name her Patience, fully recognizing that patience is part of the human condition to know what we want, and we want it now. So while I can understand the impatience in the hecklers of the Speaker, I also realize that hope naturally becomes reality by persistence and hard work. Furthermore true miracles are impossible in the natural world of these Social Darwinists.
Over the last couple of months we have mentioned the present plight of the Social Darwinists and in the “The Social Darwinist Conundrum,” we explained the juxtaposed views of the religion, especially as it related to the formation of the Soviet Union. In that context we see communist collective as being the true antithesis of the views of Ayn Rand. Rand being the author of “Atlas Shrugged” and the philosophy of Objectivism, all behind the laissez faire tenure of Alan Greenspan at the Fed.
So in the struggle of worldviews within the evolving religion of the Social Darwinists, it doesn’t really seem to be that difficult to choose a winner between the academy gene pool of collectivists and the wild west greedy speculators. Show me the money will win out all the time, especially in the United States where our culture has always been tensioned, through design, between selfish self determination and the common good.
A common good defined as even a European social democracy is not part of the American subspecies of humanity. Furthermore it seems totally absurd, if not insane, to attempt a radical transformation into collectivism, when really the only true believer nations that remain are Cuba and Venezuela. Even more importantly nothing in Social Darwinism allows for the existence of God, or even gods for that matter. While I disagree with many that the United States was formed as a Christian nation, I would submit that the Founding Fathers definitely miraculously created a secular nation based upon Godly created natural law and Judeo-Christian moral values. They also further understood that that God centered reality was a necessity for the continued prosperity of the culture they created.
The major problem with the Democrat political party is, in the manner of the monarchy in the French Revolution, they wanted the cake and eat it too. Keeping with the metaphor alert, you can’t herd cats, even if they are well funded and share a somewhat consistent political philosophy. That currently in vogue philosophy considers anyone in the late twentieth century term, more conservative than themselves, to be evolutionarily backward, stupid, and a menace to them achieving their centrally administered world harmony. They are right on the last point, but it should be noted that these Social Darwinists have dumbed down their gene pool to the point that they don’t understand that their hijacked term liberal, in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, meant the people they are trying to ostracize.
The Republicans for their part are similar to the cats, except the metaphor is more akin to noisy sheep. Currently the bah, bah sheep are without a political leader. So unless Jesus returns soon, they look back to their deceased hero Ronald Reagan, as the example of how to run the Federal government, which is cut taxes, cut government, and hopefully it will all work out in the end. So Reagan is given credit for ending the Cold War, because Soviet Union Social Darwinism had deteriorated to such a point that it couldn’t even competed with innovators in the oppressed Warsaw Pact to provide any form a governance.
Furthermore Reagan shared with the arch villain prime founder of modern progressivism, Woodrow Wilson a vision of a shining city on a hill. Reagan’s vision was very nationalistic, Wilson’s view was more international, but Wilson simply espoused the preterist position of an early example of a human created heaven on earth, not all that much different from the Reagan era Moral Majority, that morphed into the political powerful religious right. In other words Reagan got his worldview from the seventeenth and eighteenth century immigrants to America, Wilson got his from the classic European evolving views of the enlightenment.
Both worldviews focused and continue to focus on a form of United States Federalism that would cause the founders of the American experiment to barf. The natural law basis of the American Constitution is that it understands and codifies essentially natural energetics. That means really as Tip O’Neil, that superb politician stated, “All politics is local.” All politicians since the adoption of the Seventeenth Amendment (direct election of US Senators) to the Constitution have had to live with this reality. That might be good or bad depending upon your political agenda, but in reality all politics are Washington, DC based, and until the last few months that was the end of the discussion.
The energetics codified in the Constitution realized that all forms of human governance need checks and balances. The two branch legislature, the executive branch, and the Supreme Court, were founded upon that understanding. However the only balance on federalism, essentially the power of the states operating individually and collectively, were destroyed so that the shining city on the hill’s authority would not be challenged by those pesky obstinate states. And until this day, establishment Democrats and Republicans have said in unison, “Thank you Jesus! Amen and Amen.” The problem being Jesus had nothing to do with it, the Seventeenth Amendment was a successful human attempt to subvert the will of God, and you really can’t spin it any other way.
Once human’s desire to become gods in their own eyes become so reticent that they think they can create heaven on earth and save themselves temporally and eternally by their own efforts, the demise of the civilization and the culture comes in the matter of time. In the Bible, that example is explained in the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11. As the latest striking example was the real reason behind the fall of the Soviet Union, during the reign of Ronald Reagan and perhaps somewhat accelerated by his enlightened efforts.
Now for a little context of what is happening in the USA and the rest of the world. We begin with the assumption that there is a God that created all things and that he is actively involved in that creation and the affairs of his highest creation, humanity. This means that God is a personality just like us, but with divine attributes rather than created attributes. Because we are created in the image of God, all humanity is at the core religious; for even the claim that I am not a religious person is really just an illusionary negative.
We discussed earlier the Tower of Babel as a type of rebellion against God, but God does work with people to reveal His nature, both in the complexity of creation, but also in the complexity of human culture. The Old Testament is a recorded history of God’s dealing with the ancient nation of Israel, warts and all. With the virgin birth of Jesus, his sinless life, atoning sacrifice, and resurrection from the dead, God created Christianity and the church age. Fast forwarding through history over seventeen hundred years, with the help of some divinely selected and empowered men, God created the United States of America, for his good pleasure.
Now it looks like the United States is falling apart and people are beginning to try all sorts of schemes, programs, and even seeking God for direction. The Godly direction thing has fallen out of favor, just as with Old Testament Israel, because we believed that we were healthy, wealthy and wise in our own eyes. However the best thought out plans of humanity, that doesn’t rely on God as the source of its information and energetics, is a going to fail.
In Redux Rendezvous III we stated that we are to the place where all the kings horses and all the kings men can’t put Humpty Dumpty together again. Not only that, they can’t stop and oil catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, can’t protect the borders of the United States from illegal aliens, can’t put together a health care program that is better than nothing at all, can’t dream of a world in which some corporations are not too big to fail. In short the biggest failure that is unfolding hourly on our television screens is the US Federal Government.
If you go to The Creation Leadership Center website under the Phylogenesis Tab you will find a rendition of the “Sin Cosmos” graph at the bottom of the page that will visually show you what is going on in this country and around the world. Couple that with the Business Ecology Principle that, “Everything eventually runs out of Gas,” and you have a brief synopsis of what is happening.
The angst that interrupted Nancy Pelosi’s speech at the America’s Future Now conference is just a realization of many on the far left fringe of the political spectrum, that, “Now” is about to be eliminated from the cultural gene pool. Furthermore across the spectrum of the Social Darwinists, the laissez faire greedy money grubbers have strength from history, have the money, and have little if any desire to share it with collectivist Do Gooders. So the real point of interest for we, the unenlightened knuckle draggers, is to watch and see just how the Democrat politicians will attempt to hold their coalition together and not be sacrificed in the attempt.
This brings us to Glenn Beck. At least once a week he seems driven to show all the revolutionary communists and other radicals that have been associated with President Obama. I suppose the list now includes over thirty people, who have been hiding in the academy and other bastions of the unreal world for forty years or so. So now they go out to sow the seeds of latent Marxism in a world, that except for Cuba and Venezuela, has moved on toward Ayn Rand’s Objectivism worldview.
How many seeds of these pioneering species of communist are there in America, three million, a tenth, or one-hundredth of that? I doubt it, but just like the President they have no skill sets, other than perhaps community organizing, propaganda, and getting together in their academic ghetto to discuss how they will prove Marx right and all of recorded human history wrong. They have never run anything, and we are all learning how well the best of them are handling their new real world gigs.
Now just as rare as the leftist revolutionaries, are the people who truly understand the Godly component in this change beyond we can believe in. If we can’t understand what is going on, that is where God wants us, then when it all comes together, just like the United States did at the turn of the nineteenth century, everyone will understand that they had a part to play, but the unity in the diversity of what has taken place, simply will leave us in awe.
I knew a number of church planting pastors that went to Russia by faith after the fall of the Soviet Union. A number of them are still there I assume, some have returned to more secular vocations. One of the stories they repeated often both in Russia and when back in the states was the fact that they really didn’t have a clue what they were doing, but God added and supplied not only their needs, but actually made a small group of sick and tired Russians into a vibrant and reproducing church.
For my own testimony since about this time in 1981 I have not had what most people would call a secure job. After I had received over an inch of rejection letters, for positions I was overqualified, I decided to try my entrepreneurial skills. I had no problem finding clients, except they couldn’t pay me either. Eventually I was given the right to develop some precious metals mining and refining equipment. That took all my remaining wealth. I lived in a motel for a year, and rent free in exchange for services for a few years.
Finally a friend from church gave me a job as a laborer in his hardwood flooring company. Over time as my skills increased so did my rate of pay, but the nature of the job was sometimes you worked sixty hours a week, sometimes especially after Christmas, you were unemployed, a couple of times even after the unemployment checks ran out.
In May 2002 my mother died, and with some of the estate money, I was able to buy health insurance and my own flooring equipment and with my contacts and the flooring job I was somewhat able to relax for the first time in a couple of decades. Then in January 2003 after shooting baskets in the park, it was discovered my ascending aorta had grown to dangerous proportions. God provided probably the best surgeon in the world to do my operation and seven years later with a pig heart valve, I still feel better than I did when I was in my twenties.
Being unable to do strenuous physical work for over six months eventually I was unable to cover the big city overhead in Seattle, hence I moved to this small family property in Northeast Washington. The almost three years here have been in many ways been at the same time the most difficult and the most rewarding I have ever experienced. The order of events sometimes changes with the hour. This I have learned, like my missionary friends, I really don’t know much about what I am doing, but it seems as if God has got all the details worked out and all I have to do is follow along.
All this is to say Glenn Beck, just like most Mormons and most evangelical Christians, worry way too much about the future. I never have applied for food stamps, but I can’t remember all the times I didn’t know where the next source of money would come from, but to quote Psalm 37:25: “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.”
What is happening in the United States now is a God thing and there is a choice we each have to make, just like everyone had to make at the time of the American Revolution. We all have a part to play, many will fall away, but there will be a remnant that will come through to the other side. That will not be a shining city on a hill, but a world in which this pilgrimage in some way makes sense, because God has given meaning to your life for the first time. That makes all the difference.
As for me I get the opportunity to Chronicle this wonderful story. I have no idea why he chose me to do this, or for sure what else may lie in the future. “But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15b
